Yu went to his desk and, as he was alone, pulled out the bottle of Maotai and poured himself a stiff drink. Putting his nose up to the glass, he breathed in deeply, savoring the aroma. He used a small spoon to take two ice cubes out of the water pitcher on his desk and dropped them into the glass with a plop. After swirling them for a moment, he took a sip from the etched crystal glass.

Heavenly.

Taking a deep breath, he began to think more deeply. Troop strength is still adequate, no major human losses, yet anyway. One mechanized battalion and an airmobile battalion still available for counterattacks, so that is massively good. The staff still believes we can win, and more importantly, DIYA still agrees with us by a healthy margin. We are also strangling the Americans logistically, and now that their fleet is 3,600 kilometers out of position, they won’t be back to interfere for weeks. Soon the resupply convoy will sail from Hong Kong, and I will have the reinforcements and supplies I desperately need, just not as much as General Wei knows I require.

Yu paused and took another sip from his glass.

On the downside, Deng is still insufferable, and my wife has already started a spending spree while I am here and cannot restrain her. So in the grand balance of things, overall, I think I am still in a good position.

Yu took a final long drink and felt the Maotai warm his throat as it went down.

I shall still hope for the best.
